Self-Reliance Expo

Yesterday a friend and I went to the Self-Reliance Expo here in town.  Wow!  And to think we almost missed it!

There were vendor booths from some pretty amazing vendors for all things self-reliance oriented.  Oh boy, it was a good thing I didn’t have any money to spend and I had good self-control so I didn’t spend it anyway.

I could have bought decked-out emergency medical backpacks or even picked up the individual gear to make my own.  There were roll-up solar panels that fit in a sleeping bag sized bag.  There were Berkey water filters.  There were multitudes of items for stocking a well-stocked 72-hour/bug-out bag.  I even tasted a powdered skim milk that I am ecstatic to stock up on.  Yeah, it was THAT good.  And we all know how powdered milk usually tastes.  Blech! Bonus, it even comes in chocolate.  What more could I want?

I was even a bit of groupie.  Dave Duffy (founder of Backwoods Home magazine) was manning a booth with his wife.  I got his autograph.  Yeah, I know.  Groupie.

My friend and I bought the post-expo video package so we could listen to all the speakers from both days of the expo so we weren’t too worried about trying to make all the presentations, but we did listen to two of them.  Wow.  Talk about interesting.  I’m now trying to scrounge up the money for the School of Natural Healing’s Family Herbalist certification.  Sigh.  It’s a special expo pricing for literally 1/5th the normal price, but it’s gonna be a race to see if I can come up with it before the sale is over.  It’s the first step in the Master Herbalist degree that I’m quite honestly drooling over.  One step at a time though.

We both walked out of the expo center quite giddy from our day.  It was a lot of fun and very informative.  We can’t wait til next year.
