Baked Egg Custard


I have been craving this old-fashioned comfort food dessert for weeks now.  It is such a simple recipe and inexpensive too, but oh so yummy. 

4 eggs

2/3 cup sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

3 tsp vanilla extract

2 2/3 cup milk

Combine eggs, sugar, spices and vanilla.  Blend in milk.  Pour into a 1 1/2 qt baking dish.  Place baking dish in a cake pan in oven; add 1 inch water to pan.

Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until knife inserted near middle comes out clean.  6 servings.

For some reason, this took almost 2 hours to set up for me, but it mayhave been the eggs I used; they were smaller free-range eggs from a friends home chickens.
